Tailfeather

Wrap yourself in a big, beautiful scarf and show off your plumage. Tailfeather is a worsted-weight lace scarf with long interlocking feather motifs. The garter-based lace pattern is fast and easy to knit, and looks great on both sides. I chose the widest size for extra cosiness! 

Skills & Techniques

  • Simple lace knitting including centred double decreases. All wrong-side rows are identical, and contain only knit and purl stitches

  • Long Tail cast on (optional)

  • Charts and written instructions are both provided in full

Materials Needed

  • 3 balls of Outlaw Yarn Bohemia Worsted (45% polwarth, 45% alpaca, 10% possum; 219yds/200m per 100g ball), or 470 [610] yards / 430 [558] metres of worsted-weight yarn. Sample colourway: ‘Ambrotype’.

  • US 7 / 4.5mm straight or circular needles (or needle size that gives you the right gauge)

  • A needle for weaving in the ends

  • Blocking pins and wires are optional but recommended (tutorial: How to block textured knits)

Finished Measurements

  • 77”/196cm long (both size options), and 8”/20.3cm [10.5”/26.7cm] wide

  • Size options: Narrow [Wide]. Sample size: Wide.
