Folia Loop

Folia Loop is the second design in my La Folia Collection, which showcases the possibilities of a simple leafy lace stitch contrasting with garter stitch, and strong geometric shapes. Its diagonal panel of lace evokes a garden of growing vines. A versatile accessory, Folia Loop can be worn draped elegantly around your neck or wrapped twice for warmth. You will need only one skein of fingering-weight yarn, and you can easily enlarge the cowl if you wish.

Skills & Techniques

Materials Needed

  • 1 skein of Malabrigo Mechita (100% merino; 420yds/384m per 100g), or 380yds/348m of fingering-weight yarn. Sample colourway: ‘Pearl’.

  • US 6 / 4mm straight or circular needles (or needle size that gives you the right gauge)

  • Scrap yarn for provisional cast on

  • A stitch marker, and a needle for weaving in the ends

Finished Measurements

  • 39”/99cm circumference, 10”/25.4cm depth

  • The circumference is easily altered by working a different number of rows in the garter stitch section.
